Development cooperation:

I have been involved with various development projects:
- Siemenpuu Foundation, assessing, making decisions on and monitoring environmental projects in the South, particularly in East and Southeast Asia, from 2002 onw. Now project coordinator in charge of projects in Mali (French Speaking Africa) and Mekong region, and the rest of asia except India and Indonesia. (www.siemenpuu.org)
- Finnish Vietnamese Friendship Association has had many projects, earlier it was purely material aid (paper, hospital equipments, medicine, clothes etc) and then a Saving and Credit project for thai women in some small villages in Son La province, earlier also together with Devaid Association a similar project in Hoa Binh provice and near Hanoi. Now we are consultants in the local democracy project in Hoa Binh and Soc Son by Coalition for Environment and Development.
-Day Work Campaign had a project with Gabriela in the Philippines to support their educational program for women and children
-Finnish-Philippine Society had an environmental project with Haribon Foundation to spread environmental awareness in rural communities.
- Tightropedance had a godchild project in Nicaragua, Jinotepe Orphanage, in which each of us paid a certain amount every month for a certain child for his/her education.

Magazines

I was the editor-in-chief of a small bulletin called East of Eden from1989 to1993. The bulletin was the only Finnish publication on the current development affairs of the Asia-Pacific and published four times a year by Asia Committee which was the predecessor of Finnish Asiatic Society. Now the society has an electronic bulletin, Asia Info, in the web, see www.aasia.info

I was the editor-in-chief of the energypolitical magazine Alternative to Nuclear Power from 1992 to 1994 which also came out four times a year.

I have written numerous articles in various magazines and newspapers mainly on cultural and political issues in Asia, and on export credits. In March 2006 Helsingin Sanomat published my interview with Vietnamese dissident writer Madame Duong Thu Huong, see the web page of FVFA www vietnamseura.org
