![]() Tove
My name is Tove Isa-Emilia Fransisca Selin. My name is not a very typical Finnish name. Tove comes from a famous Finnish-Swedish author Tove Jansson, who has created the Moomin characters (ever heard?). Tove is actually a danish name, also used in Norway and Swedish Finland (Finland is a bilingual country). Isa is a name used by female members of my father's family, and Emilia is the same in my mother's family. At the time I was born they were very rare or used by people of about 100 years of age, so I was very ashamed of them. Now every second female baby in Finland is either Isa or Emilia. Or even Fransisca which is derived from the name of Fransiscus of Assisi, the special saint of ecology. My brother Niko is of course Fransiscus. As you can see about the illustrations of my homepage I am really interested in Asia, especially Japan and Southeast Asia. I became interested in Japan already as a child maybe because of the influence of my father who is interested in Zen Buddhism. I got Japanese pen friend and started to practise Judo in the age of fourteen. Later a developed an interest towards the rest of Asia, especially Southeast Asia. I have graduated from the Japanese studies from the University of Helsinki, and I am active in various Southeast Asia friendship associations. Presently I work in a foundation supporting Asian NGOs in their environmental work. I have travelled extencively in Asia, to India, Philippines, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, China, Pakistan, Laos and Cambodia.
In Chinese horoscope I am a fire horse which is rather bad omen in Asia as fire horses, especially females, are far too independent and selfish to become a good Asian wifes. Famous horses include almost all former Soviet leaders from Lenin to Brezhnev, so we are also revolutionaries. In my curriculum vitae you can see what kind of a revolution I have in mind...
